I see people getting real worried about loss of information on specific topics if Reddit were to go down and the only thing I can think about is how the internet as a whole failed to keep forums alive.

I get it, losing stuff sucks, but all the people who used/hosted forums have been sayin this shit for years and eons which is why we try to make it a point either archive important stuff or keep it hosted in multiple places. Open source and the such.

Idk, maybe Reddit shouldn't have been one of the many sites replacing forums. Maybe the inernet could have made it a point to make specific topics hosted in places that are searchable via browsers and not be entirely reliant on a service from a private business. Maybe people shouldn't be hiding information behind chatrooms/twitter threads. Maybe more people should care about actually utilizing Internet Archive or seriously filling out wikis and the such. Idk.
